Configuring ASCOM Safety Monitor in N.I.N.A.

This guide will walk you through the installation and configuration of the Generic ASCOM Safety Monitor in N.I.N.A.. Before proceeding, please ensure you have mapped the roof status file network location to your PC.

Step-by-Step: Install & Configure Safety Monitor

1. Download and Install the Safety Monitor


2. Open N.I.N.A. and Configure the Safety Monitor

  1. Launch N.I.N.A.

  2. Go to the Equipment tab, then click on Safety Monitor

  3. In the Driver dropdown, select:
    Generic File Driver (ASCOM)

  4. Click the gear icon next to the dropdown to open the driver settings.


3. Configure SAFE Condition

Fill in the fields as follows:

  • Event: Safe

  • File to monitor:
    Navigate to your building’s mapped roof status file, e.g.:
    Z:\roof\building-6\RoofStatusFile.txt

  • Trigger preamble: Roof Status:

  • Unsafe Delay [minutes]: 0

  • Monitor interval [minutes]: 1

  • Trigger: OPEN

Click Apply.


4. Configure UNSAFE Condition

Fill in the fields as follows:

  • Event: Unsafe

  • File to monitor:
    Use the same path as above, e.g.:
    Z:\roof\building-6\RoofStatusFile.txt

  • Trigger preamble: Roof Status:

  • Unsafe Delay [minutes]: 0

  • Monitor interval [minutes]: 1

  • Trigger: CLOSED

Click Apply, then OK to close the settings.


5. Connect the Safety Monitor

Click the Connect button in N.I.N.A.’s Safety Monitor section to activate monitoring.
