Seestar Smart Telescope Remote Access Requirements

🔭 Seestar Remote Operation Requirements

StarFront Observatories

To enable remote control and access to a Seestar telescope at StarFront Observatories, customers must meet the following hardware, software, connectivity, and power requirements.

1. Required Hardware

Customers must provide one of the following devices to run the Seestar app:

  • Android Tablet
Must be compatible with the Seestar app.

  • Mac Mini
Minimum requirement: Apple Silicon (M1 chip or newer).

  • Android Phone
May be used in place of a tablet but can be less practical or more expensive. Customers should test compatibility with the Seestar app before sending the device to StarFront Observatories.

2. Software Requirements

Android Tablet or Phone Users:

  • Seestar app must be installed.

  • AnyDesk must be installed for remote access.

  • Technicians may configure unattended access.

Mac Mini Users:

  • Install the Seestar app via the iOS App Store.

  • AnyDesk (or another preferred remote desktop app) must be installed.

3. Connectivity and Access Considerations

  • Customers should test Seestar connectivity to their chosen control device before shipping to the observatory.

  • If a VPN is requested for use with remote desktop tools (other than AnyDesk), we can provide VPN access on request.

  • ⚠️ Important: The Seestar S30 and S50 cannot be controlled directly over VPN. A physical device (Mac Mini or Android) with access to the Seestar app is required.

4. Power Requirements

To support remote power cycling:

  • Use only Kasa-brand smart plugs or compact alternatives.

  • Digital Loggers Web Power Switches are no longer supported on the Seestar Bar. These units are too large for the compact space available.

    • Existing approved Digital Loggers already in place will be grandfathered in.

    • All new setups must follow the updated policy.

Power Configuration Examples:

  • If using a Mac Mini + Seestar: send a 2–3 port Kasa smart plug.

  • If using an Android tablet + Seestar: at least a 1-port Kasa plug for the Seestar is required.

Power Cable Recommendations:

  • A 10-foot right-angle power cord is recommended to minimize strain and clutter.

  • The Seestar and control device will remain plugged in at all times to ensure reliable operation.

5. Recommended Accessories

  • Leveling Device:
    Strongly recommended for accurate alignment.
✅ Suggested: Apertura Easy Leveler for Seestar Telescopes from High Point Scientific.

  • Equatorial Mounts (optional):
Must be under 4.5 inches tall to fit within Seestar Bar clearance.
