Seestar Smart Telescope Remote Access Requirements

To enable remote control and access to a Seestar telescope at StarFront Observatories, customers must ensure they meet the following hardware, software, and connectivity requirements.

1. Required Hardware

Customers must have one of the following devices to run the Seestar app:

  • Android Tablet (Must be compatible with the Seestar app)

  • Mac Mini (Minimum requirement: M1 chip or greater)

  • Android Phone (May also work as an alternative to an Android tablet, but may be more costly. Customers should test compatibility with the Seestar app before sending the device to StarFront Observatories.)

2. Software Requirements

  • Android Tablet Users:

    • The Seestar app must be installed.

    • AnyDesk must be installed to allow remote access.

    • Additional setup may be required by technicians to configure unattended access.

  • Mac Mini Users:

    • The iOS Seestar app must be downloaded.

    • AnyDesk or another preferred remote desktop software must be installed.

3. Connectivity and Access Considerations

  • Customers should test the Seestar connection to their chosen remote operation device before deployment.

  • If a VPN connection is requested for use with a different remote desktop application (other than AnyDesk), StarFront Observatories can provide the necessary VPN access.

  • Important: The Seestar S30 and S50 cannot be directly controlled over a VPN connection. They require an Android device or a Mac Mini (M1 chip or greater) that has access to the Seestar app via the Android or iOS app store.

4. Power Requirements

  • It is recommended that customers send a 2 or 3 port Kasa web power switch to allow remote power cycling of their Mac Mini and Seestar as needed.

  • If using an Android tablet, a Kasa port is not required for the tablet, but customers should still send at least a single port Kasa web power switch for the Seestar.

  • The Seestar telescope will remain plugged in at all times for ease of use. Customers should plan for a charger and cable that is long enough to suit their needs.

  • The tablet will also remain plugged in at all times to ensure continuous remote access.
