Pier Camera Usage Policy for Remote Clients

We are committed to providing a secure and collaborative environment for all our customers and staff. As the number of remote telescopes continues to grow, it is essential to ensure that the pier cameras connected to these systems are used responsibly.

To maintain a safe and respectful atmosphere for everyone, Starfront Observatories is implementing the following Pier Camera Usage Policy.

Hardware Restrictions

Pier cameras may not contain any of the following features:

1. Internet connectivity

2. IR lamp

3. Point/tilt/zoom capability

4. Microphone

Any camera sent to us that has any of these features will not be installed. Planetary astronomy cameras are the best choice for a pier camera. Especially those that have a 1/4" female thread.

Privacy and Respect

Pier cameras must not be used to monitor, record, or capture images or videos of Starfront staff, technicians, or visitors without explicit permission. Our staff’s privacy and dignity are paramount, and any misuse of camera systems in this regard is strictly prohibited.

Authorized Use

Cameras are primarily intended for telescope operation, observation, and maintenance. While personal content may be captured, it must adhere to all other aspects of this policy and should not infringe on the privacy of others or be used inappropriately.

Monitoring and Enforcement

Starfront will not monitor camera logs or live feeds unless they are made public. However, we reserve the right to review public posts on forums, Discord, or other platforms if they contain inappropriate images, videos, or discussions involving pier camera misuse. Violations may result in access restrictions or termination of services.

Reporting Concerns

If you become aware of inappropriate use of pier cameras, we encourage you to report it to our support team immediately via our Ticket Tool in Discord.

These policies are designed to foster a professional and respectful environment. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that Starfront remains a safe place for everyone working on-site and for those operating remotely.
